A host of talks and installations ICA Group, One Works and Plinio il Giovane take the public on a voyage of discovery through the different facets of sustainability!

At the headquarters of One Works, at via Sciesa 3, Milan

Milan, 14 July 2021 – September will see Milan at the center of international attention for beauty and design with the Salone del Mobile event, and subsequently for climate change with the COP26 preparatory meeting. Meanwhile, from September 5–10, the “PAINTING THE WORLD WITH SUSTAINABILITY” event will be held, bringing together the characteristics of the former and the values of the latter, which are becoming inextricably linked.

The creators and promoters of this event, which will add further color to the Fuorisalone Design Week 2021 Edition, are ICA Group, a leading producer of innovative and environmentally sustainable coatings for wood and glass, and One Works, one of the most prominent Italian architectural firms with international scope. These two organizations, alongside their prestigious partner Plinio il Giovane, a real institution in the Milanese design scene since 1975 for the creation of eco-friendly wooden furniture, will offer a rich program of meetings and installations at the headquarters of One Works at via Sciesa 3, and inauguration of the first ICA Group showroom in Milan, for an event that cannot be missed.

The event will enable the public to encounter, understand and gage the extent to which sustainability can, and increasingly needs to be, the underlying product and process philosophy for any project. It will be structured with an original program of live and virtual talks focused on the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The program will be available shortly at www.one-works.com and www.icaspa.com.

Alongside this, visitors can enjoy an exclusive preview exhibition of certain pieces from the new Plinio il Giovane ARIA collection, created by historic Milanese designer Mario Prandina and targeting the contract market. Designed to guarantee safety and well-being, through ecologically sound materials (sustainable finishes, raw materials such as solid wood and high-tech materials), scalability, modularity and alignment with health and hygiene regulations, ARIA is further instilled with personality, beauty and sustainability through the limitless color options of the innovative coatings from ICA Group, a company that has been internationally showcasing Italian research and manufacturing excellence for over 50 years.

An awareness of the value offered by the ingenuity and design and production expertise of Italian excellence, together with a perfectly shared vision of innovation and environmental sustainability in the respective fields, has enabled One Works and ICA Group to launch a partnership with the “PAINTING THE WORLD WITH SUSTAINABILITY” event that is destined to last long into the future. The One Works headquarters, initially developed as a hub for sharing and creative dialog between customers, professionals in the chain of production and the general public, will host Lifelab Discovery, a permanent ICA Group showroom. This demonstrates how the excellence of detailed solutions can enhance a project’s impact and represents an ideal finishing point for the event journey that will begin with talks on sustainability in the Creative Hub, before moving on to the Plinio il Giovane displays and ending up in the showroom, where visitors can immerse themselves in an infinite range of colors and finishes.

The new project from Plinio il Giovane draws on the shared inspiration and unique characteristics of ICA Group and One Works, which are combined with its own in the common objective of offering people well-being and sustainability in every aspect of the design and in usage of the final product over time. These are the origins of the concept for the new ARIA range.

Aimed primarily at the contract market, to help redefine crowded public spaces with high footfall (such as stations, airports or large commercial environments — a specialist area for One Works), the name ARIA brings to mind everything that we have missed over recent months, with products that offer what we will need going forward: safety, durability, respect for the environment and, naturally, beauty. These characteristics are enhanced by the use of ICA Group Iridea Bio water-based coatings in a multitude of colors, and formulated with renewable waste materials that are not fit for human consumption and are produced entirely in compliance with the most recent green policies, reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and CO2. Thanks to their certified excellence and sustainability, which is reflected in extraordinary chemical/physical properties, these coatings for furnishings count towards LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits and have achieved Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) from UL, a global leader in product certification.

Mario Prandina, mentor and founder of the Plinio il Giovane brand, who heads the new creative team formed of young designers Francesco Ippoliti and Benedetta Di Matteo, launches a new collection developed for the needs arising from the social changes caused by the pandemic (distancing, hygiene, etc.) and environmental changes in the context of sustainable development and circular economics.

This is the first scalable and modular collection aimed at the contract market, conceived for both small projects and large structures and infrastructure, and designed for the new requirements of public spaces. The use of new-generation, hi-tech materials that are sustainable and recyclable and the techniques employed enable easy reuse and maintenance of products, avoiding disposal and replacement due to wear, giving the collection added value.

The “One” chair for example, the first pilot piece from the collection, in addition to being stackable, is also easy to maintain and its construction makes it very resistant to physical wear.
